Come and hear Watford Philharmonic Society in their 80th Anniversary year! The Watford Philharmonic Society Choir and Orchestra will be performing

Coleridge-Taylor: Hiawatha's Wedding Feast

Elgar: The Music Makers

Walton: Henry V Suite

While music by Elgar and Walton is well known, Samuel Coleridge Taylor is not often performed today. He was probably the first composer of African descent to be taken seriously by the European musical establishment. At one stage he was known as the "African Mahler". His composition, based on Longfellow's "Hiawatha", became wildly popular from its first performance in 1898 up to the outbreak of WW2.
